More than "bitterballen" from the FEBO...

While it is not very easy to recommend a long list of restaurants serving "traditional Dutch dishes" (there are not so many traditional Dutch dishes, let alone restaurants), there are a lot of nice places to eat in Amsterdam.

Here is a list of restaurant recommendations compiled by our SURF colleagues, representing their (native) cuisines.

Dutch:

  • Cafe Sonneveld: one of the few places serving Dutch 'stampot' and other Dutch-style food and snacks. (Google Maps)

  • Restaurant 't Zwaantje: traditional brown-cafe interior restuarant serving Dutch-style food. (Google Maps)

  • Restaurant-Café In de Waag: located in a former city-gate, recommended for a great rib-eye steak. (Google Maps)

  • Mooie Boules Amsterdam: for a post-training game of 'Jeu de Boules' and a bite. (Google Maps)

It is also very close to the main taproom of brewery 't IJ

Italian:

  • Pizza Pazzi: they have multiple locations in Amsterdam, 'Pazzi Oost' being the closest to Science Park. (Google Maps)

  • Il pacioccone: Small family restaurant serving traditional italian food. Quite central, but not the cheapest. (Google Maps)

  • Vicio Il Mastro Pastaio: serving sicilian food. (Google Maps)

  • Olidò - Pizzeria Amsterdam Oost: another good pizza place close to Science Park (Google Maps)

Chinese:

  • Yuan’s Hot Pot: Chinese Hot Pot place (Google Maps)

  • Wan Shun Restaurant: unlike most Chinese restaurants in The Netherlands, this place serves North-East Chinese food. (Google Maps)

Finally, an area close to Science Park with many nice restaurant is the Javastraat: see Google Maps
